Divi Box & Ship user guide

Pack Divi layouts, presets and settings into a box and unbox them on another site.

What support covers. SU support helps with problems in SU plugins only. For Divi itself (the theme, the builder, Divi updates) or for design help, please contact Elegant Themes support.

What it does and who it's for

Divi Box & Ship packs your Divi pages and posts, Divi Library items, Theme Builder templates, Divi settings (theme options, presets, colors, fonts, custom CSS) and optionally your images into one download (a "box"). On another Divi site you "unbox" it, choosing whether existing items are skipped, replaced or copied. Boxing is read-only, and a backup is saved before unboxing changes anything.

It's for agencies and freelancers who reuse designs across sites, Divi designers building starter kits, and anyone moving a Divi site. It works on its own; Divi Bot Bridge (included) lets your Grok Bot do the packing and shipping for you.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.0 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer
  • The Divi theme or the Divi Builder plugin, Divi 4 or Divi 5, active on both sites
  • An administrator account
  • Box & Ship installed on both the source and the destination site
  • Uploads up to 64 MB per box

Install the plugin

  1. Download the plugin zip from your account at suweb.ai > My account > Downloads. Keep it zipped.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New and click Upload Plugin at the top.
  3. Click Choose File, pick the zip, then click Install Now.
  4. Already have an older version installed? WordPress shows a comparison. Click Replace current with uploaded.
  5. Click Activate Plugin. A SUWEB menu appears in the left sidebar (all SU Web plugins share it).

Add your license key

A license gives you updates and support. The plugin keeps working with or without one.

  1. Find your key in your order email or at suweb.ai > My account > My licenses.
  2. In WordPress, go to SUWEB > My licenses.
  3. Under Add a license key, paste your key and click Activate. One key fills in for every installed SU Web plugin it covers.
  4. You'll see License activated. Each plugin row shows its version, a status pill, and your key masked (only the last four characters show).
  5. Moving the plugin to a different site? Click Deactivate on this site first so the site seat is freed up.

Getting updates

  • Updates arrive the normal WordPress way: Dashboard > Updates (and the Plugins page) when a new version is ready.
  • Want to check right now? Click Check for updates on SUWEB > My licenses. It rechecks your license and looks for new versions straight away.
  • Optional: Auto-install critical updates installs a release automatically only when suweb.ai marks it as an urgent security or breakage fix. Other updates still wait for you.

Status messages you may see

  • No license. Add a key below to get updates. No key entered yet.
  • This license is no longer active. Everything keeps working as before; updates and support are paused. Renew at suweb.ai.
  • Update available, renew to download. A new version exists; renew to get it.
  • Activation failed. Check the key for typos and that you have a free site seat, then try again.

Privacy

Licensing only sends your license key, your site's address and the plugin version to suweb.ai. Nothing else, and none of your content.

Box it up (on the source site)

  1. Go to SUWEB > Divi Box & Ship. You'll see what will go in the box: Pages & Posts, Divi Library, Theme Builder, Divi Settings and media.
  2. Either click Box & Ship Everything, or open Advanced, check just the items you want and click Box the checked items. Media and categories those items use come along automatically. Tick Copy media to include your images in the box.
  3. Wait while it boxes your settings, pages, library and templates. This is read-only: nothing on your site is changed.
  4. When you see Your box is ready, click Download ZIP and save the file. Download links are short-lived, so download it straight away.

Unbox (on the destination site)

  1. Go to SUWEB > Divi Box & Ship and choose Unbox (Unbox a site).
  2. Choose your Box & Ship ZIP (or everything.json) and click Read the box. Review what's inside.
  3. Under If something is already here, choose Skip existing, Replace or Create copies.
  4. Click Unbox onto this site. A backup of anything that will be overwritten is saved first.
  5. When it says Unbox finished, review the summary (Created, Updated, Skipped, Failed) and click Download backup JSON to keep the backup somewhere safe.
  6. Check your menus, homepage and a few pages on the new site.

Divi 4 and Divi 5

A box made on Divi 4 can be unboxed on Divi 4 or Divi 5 (Divi 5 converts the Divi 4 content). A box made on Divi 5 can't go onto a Divi 4 site: it's refused with "This box is from Divi 5 and this site is Divi 4. Nothing was written."

Hosting firewall (WAF) and security plugins

You box and unbox from the Box & Ship screen inside WordPress, which uses WordPress's own admin connection. If your Grok Bot does the packing and shipping for you, it goes through Divi Bot Bridge and WordPress's standard web address for apps (the REST API, under /wp-json/). Some hosts' firewalls block those requests, and some also block large uploads.

Signs of a block: an action spins and then fails, or you (or your Grok Bot) see a plain page saying 403 or Forbidden Access instead of a normal WordPress message. This page comes from your host's firewall, not from the plugin.

Step 1: Add a firewall exception for /wp-json/. In your hosting control panel, open the firewall / WAF settings (or ask your host's support) and add an exception for the path /wp-json/. Just the path is enough; you don't need the full web address. This is the fix that worked on suweb.ai itself. It doesn't open your site up: every request still has to log in properly.

Step 2 (alternative): an IP allow rule. If your host can't do path exceptions, ask them to allow the IP address the requests come from. Note that some IP addresses change over time, so the path exception is the better long-term fix.

Step 3: Delete requests. Some hosts block "delete" type requests altogether. Box & Ship's own screens don't rely on delete requests. When your Grok Bot works on your site through Divi Bot Bridge, it can send deletes as a normal request marked ?_method=DELETE, which gets past this kind of block; the Bridge training file already tells it to. You don't need to change any settings.

Step 4: Check your security plugins. Security plugins can block the same requests. For example, in CleanTalk look at the anti-crawler, anti-flood and firewall options: leave them off, or add your own site / the request to their allowlist. Do the same check in any other firewall or security plugin you use.

Step 5: Retest.

  1. On the Box & Ship screen, box up a single small item and download it, then unbox it on the other site.
  2. If your Grok Bot handles it, ask it to "box up my site with Box & Ship" and confirm it reports success instead of a 403 / Forbidden Access page.
  3. If either still fails, recheck Steps 1 to 4.

If it still fails, clear any site or host cache, wait a few minutes for firewall changes to take effect, and try again. Still stuck? Contact suweb.ai/support and tell us what you saw and when. See also suweb.ai/docs/hosting-and-firewall.

Troubleshooting

  • "Divi is not active on this site": activate the Divi theme or the Divi Builder plugin, then come back. Nothing was changed.
  • "This box has expired – click Box it up again" / "That download link has expired.": box it up again and download right away.
  • "Unbox stopped.": read the message, then click Resume to carry on where it left off.
  • "That file is larger than 64 MB.": box fewer items using Advanced, or leave Copy media off.
  • "This is not a Divi Box & Ship file." / "That ZIP contains invalid JSON.": use the ZIP exactly as Box & Ship downloaded it; don't unzip and re-zip it.
  • "This server cannot build a ZIP…": your server is missing ZIP support, so you get a single JSON file instead. You can unbox that file the same way.
  • Images missing after unboxing: turn on Copy media when boxing; otherwise images are linked from the old site and may not come across if it isn't reachable.
  • "The page expired. Reload it and try Unbox again.": reload the page and repeat.
