Divi Kickstart user guide
Collect everything for your new Divi site in one private brief, then let your Grok Bot build it.
What support covers. SU support helps with problems in SU plugins only. For Divi itself (the theme, the builder, Divi updates) or for design help, please contact Elegant Themes support.
What it does and who it's for
Divi Kickstart is a friendly wizard inside WordPress that collects everything needed to build your Divi website (your business details, pages, look, photos, logo and sites you like) into one private brief. Your Grok Bot then builds the site with real Divi modules, so you can edit it yourself later. It can also start from your current website for a redesign.
It's for small business owners who want a site without learning a page builder, and freelancers and agencies gathering content from clients.
Requirements
- WordPress 5.6 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer
- Divi 4 or Divi 5
- An administrator account
- To have your Grok Bot build the site: Divi Bot Bridge, connected to your Grok Bot (it's included with Kickstart)
Install the plugin
- Download the plugin zip from your account at suweb.ai > My account > Downloads. Keep it zipped.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins > Add New and click Upload Plugin at the top.
- Click Choose File, pick the zip, then click Install Now.
- Already have an older version installed? WordPress shows a comparison. Click Replace current with uploaded.
- Click Activate Plugin. A SUWEB menu appears in the left sidebar (all SU Web plugins share it).
Add your license key
A license gives you updates and support. The plugin keeps working with or without one.
- Find your key in your order email or at suweb.ai > My account > My licenses.
- In WordPress, go to SUWEB > My licenses.
- Under Add a license key, paste your key and click Activate. One key fills in for every installed SU Web plugin it covers.
- You'll see License activated. Each plugin row shows its version, a status pill, and your key masked (only the last four characters show).
- Moving the plugin to a different site? Click Deactivate on this site first so the site seat is freed up.
Getting updates
- Updates arrive the normal WordPress way: Dashboard > Updates (and the Plugins page) when a new version is ready.
- Want to check right now? Click Check for updates on SUWEB > My licenses. It rechecks your license and looks for new versions straight away.
- Optional: Auto-install critical updates installs a release automatically only when suweb.ai marks it as an urgent security or breakage fix. Other updates still wait for you.
Status messages you may see
- No license. Add a key below to get updates. No key entered yet.
- This license is no longer active. Everything keeps working as before; updates and support are paused. Renew at suweb.ai.
- Update available, renew to download. A new version exists; renew to get it.
- Activation failed. Check the key for typos and that you have a free site seat, then try again.
Privacy
Licensing only sends your license key, your site's address and the plugin version to suweb.ai. Nothing else, and none of your content.
Start your brief
Go to SUWEB > Divi Kickstart. You'll see Let's build your website and three ways to start. Pick whichever is easier; you can skip anything except your business name.
Option 1: I have everything ready
Click Upload my files. Drop all your files in one place (photos, your website text, contact info, brand colors and fonts or a style guide, and optionally links or screenshots of sites you like), add your Business name and any Notes, then click Send it over. Missing something? Submit anyway; the gaps get filled in.
Option 2: Walk me through it
Click Guide me and go one step at a time:
- Tell us about your business: business name (required), type of business, a short description, and who your customers are.
- How can people reach you?: phone, email, address, hours and social links. Only add what you want shown on your site.
- Your pages: one page per line. Not sure? Keep the suggestions (Home, About, Services, Contact). Rename, add, remove, or drag to reorder.
- Your look: colors, a heading font and a body font, and the style feel. Not sure? Choose You pick for me.
- Add your photos and files: drag and drop, or click to browse. Click Use as logo on the image that's your logo.
- Sites you like: add links or screenshots of websites whose look you love (used for inspiration, never copied).
- Have a design already?: upload a mockup image or PDF if you have one.
- Review and submit: check everything and click Send it over.
Any step except the first and the last can be skipped with Skip - you decide for me. Your progress saves as you go (Progress saved), so you can stop and come back.
Option 3: Redesign my current website
Click Redesign my site and enter your current Website address (starting with http or https). Then choose how hands-on you want to be:
- Just do it: keep your content, logo and colors and get a fresh, modern Divi design.
- I want some input: pick what you'd like to change.
After you submit
The Divi Kickstart page shows your status:
- Waiting: "We have your brief and will start building soon." While it's waiting you can click Edit my brief.
- Building: "We are building your website right now."
- Done: "Your website is ready!"
Start over clears your current brief so you can begin again.
Settings
Open Settings from the Plugins page (or SUWEB > Divi Kickstart). There's one option: Remove my website brief if I delete this plugin (your files stay in the Media Library).
Privacy
Your brief stays private on your own site. Your Grok Bot reads it from your site when it builds.
Hosting firewall (WAF) and security plugins
Your answers are saved from the Kickstart screens inside WordPress. When your Grok Bot builds the site, it reads your brief through WordPress's standard web address for apps (the REST API, under /wp-json/), usually with Divi Bot Bridge. Some hosts' firewalls block those requests even though they're properly logged in.
Signs of a block: an action spins and then fails, or you (or your Grok Bot) see a plain page saying 403 or Forbidden Access instead of a normal WordPress message. This page comes from your host's firewall, not from the plugin.
Step 1: Add a firewall exception for /wp-json/. In your hosting control panel, open the firewall / WAF settings (or ask your host's support) and add an exception for the path /wp-json/. Just the path is enough; you don't need the full web address. This is the fix that worked on suweb.ai itself. It doesn't open your site up: every request still has to log in properly.
Step 2 (alternative): an IP allow rule. If your host can't do path exceptions, ask them to allow the IP address the requests come from. Note that some IP addresses change over time, so the path exception is the better long-term fix.
Step 3: Delete requests. Some hosts block "delete" type requests altogether. Kickstart's own screens don't rely on delete requests. When your Grok Bot works on your site through Divi Bot Bridge, it can send deletes as a normal request marked ?_method=DELETE, which gets past this kind of block; the Bridge training file already tells it to. You don't need to change any settings.
Step 4: Check your security plugins. Security plugins can block the same requests. For example, in CleanTalk look at the anti-crawler, anti-flood and firewall options: leave them off, or add your own site / the request to their allowlist. Do the same check in any other firewall or security plugin you use.
Step 5: Retest.
- Ask your Grok Bot to read your Kickstart brief, for example "read my Divi Kickstart brief and summarize it".
- If it reads it back, you're fixed. If it reports a 403 / Forbidden Access page, recheck Steps 1 to 4.
- Also check that the Kickstart page itself still saves (you'll see Progress saved).
If it still fails, clear any site or host cache, wait a few minutes for firewall changes to take effect, and try again. Still stuck? Contact suweb.ai/support and tell us what you saw and when. See also suweb.ai/docs/hosting-and-firewall.
Troubleshooting
- "Please add your business name so we know who we're building for.": the business name is the one thing you can't skip.
- "Please enter a valid website address (http or https)." / "Please add your current website address.": for a redesign, type the full address, e.g. starting with https://.
- "Upload failed. Please try again." or "File type not allowed.": the file may be bigger than your host allows, or a type that isn't accepted. Try a smaller file or a common format (JPG, PNG, PDF, Word), or ask your host to raise the upload limit.
- "Something went wrong. Please try again.": reload the page; your saved progress is kept.
- Can't find Edit my brief: it's only available while your brief is Waiting.
- Your Grok Bot can't see your brief: check that Divi Bot Bridge is active and connected, then see the firewall section.
